1987		Graduated from the Hong Kong Institute of Fashion Design.
1990		Returned to Malaysia in 1990 to launch his eponymous label Eric Choong, which quickly garnered a following among the Malaysian fashion and socialite sets. Nominated by the Malaysian Tourism Board as one of Malaysia’s top 10 fashion designers.
1991		Nominated by the Malaysian Tourism Board as one of Malaysia’s top 10 fashion designers.
1992		Nominated by the Malaysian Tourism Board as one of Malaysia’s top 10 fashion designers. Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for the first Nina Ricci boutique in Kuala Lumpur.
1993		Participated in the Malaysian Songket Designers’ Show which showcased clothing incorporating songket fabric. Foreign media took note of Eric at the event and named him as an up and coming Malaysian fashion designer. Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for the first Hugo Boss boutique in Kuala Lumpur
1994		Commissioned to design and produce counter staff uniforms for Ralph Lauren Perfumery nationwide.
1997		Represented Malaysia at the ASEAN Designers’ Fashion Show in Singapore.
1998		Represented Malaysia at the Asia Pacific Young Designers’ Show in Hong Kong. Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for Overseas United Bank Berhad nationwide.
1999		Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for the Japanese Restaurant of the Rasa Sayang Beach and Spa Resort in Penang. Selected to participate in the Tribute to Fashion showcase organised by The Peak magazine in collaboration with Moet & Chandon. This exclusive by-invitation only event brought together a select group of personalities from the business and diplomatic communities in Kuala Lumpur. Collaborated with Cartier at the launch of their latest range of haute jewellery. Collaborated with Bvlgari at their Millennium Gala.
2000		Commissioned by the late Tun Endon Mahmood (wife of Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) to design and produce a range of baju kebaya and evening gowns for the launch of Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia, a foundation incorporated for the purposes of receiving donations and subscriptions, and to administer such funds for education, public welfare, research, health, medical and other charitable purposes for the benefit of needy Malaysians, irrespective of colour, race or creed. Commissioned by Tiffany & Co to design and produce a range of eveningwear to complement their haute jewellery for their anniversary Gala. Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for the JF Beauty Group of Companies nationwide.
2001		A designated haute couture designer by Malaysia Tatler. Represented Malaysia at the Asia Pacific Bridal Summit 2001 in Kuala Lumpur. Commissioned by Moet & Chandon to design and produce a range of eveningwear for the Asian launch of Eastern & Oriental Express: Luxury Journey of Discovery.
2002		A designated haute couture designer by Malaysia Tatler. Invited by Sutera Harbour Resort in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to showcase his wedding collection in an event graced by the then Queen, Her Royal Highness the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for TSL Jewellery in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
2003		A designated haute couture designer by Malaysia Tatler Invited to showcase his collections at the Show of Asian Cultural Garments held in conjunction with the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan Province, China. (This annual forum is a pan-Asian platform for dialogue on key issues affecting Asia and the world.) Invited by Petronas Gallery Malaysia to participate in the Culture and Tradition in Contemporary Fashion Design exhibition to promote greater understanding and appreciation of visual arts amongst Malaysians. Invited by The Star (Malaysia’s leading English language newspaper) to showcase his latest collection at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2003 Gala Night. Invited by International Enterprise Singapore to participate in Product Fashion Show alongside international brands/corporations such as Hewlett Packard, Nike, Porsche, Philips Design, Macromedia, Epson, Red Dot Germany and Citigate Su Yeang. Participated in a fashion event organised by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia where Eric showcased his latest nyonya kebaya collection in honour of the country’s Straits-Chinese heritage.
2004		Represented Malaysia at the Showcase of Malaysia 2004 in Beijing in conjunction with China and Malaysia’s 30th Anniversary Diplomatic Relations Conference. Represented Malaysia at the Swarovski Spring/Summer Asian Fashion Tour. Invited to showcase his collections at the Glamour of Asian Culture Show held in conjunction with the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan Province, China Represented Malaysia at the Asian Designers’ Showcase in Hainan Province, China and was a guest judge at the New Silk Road Model China and Miss China World competitions. Invited by the Nanning Municipal Government to participate in the Southeast Asia International Fashion Show in Nanning, Guangxi Province, China. Invited by the Embassy of Belgium and the Malaysia-Belgium Luxembourg Business Council to showcase his collections at their Belgium Mystique 2004 Gala dinner in Kuala Lumpur. Commissioned by the Estee Lauder Group of Companies to design and produce an evening gown for their inaugural charity auction held in conjunction with the Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2004. Participated in Kuala Lumpur-Asia Fashion Week 2004 under the Malaysian Designers’ Showcase and CNN Gala Fashion Night. Invited to showcase his latest collection at the DHL Corporate Night during Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2004. Invited by the organiser of the Malaysian International Fashion Awards (“MIFA”) to be a MIFA 2004 committee member; also nominated as MIFA 2004 Top 12 Malaysian Designers. Participated in the Batik Exotica Gala Fashion Show held in conjunction with the launch of the Malaysian Batik: Crafted For The World movement under the patronage of the late Tun Endon Mahmood. Invited to sit on the judging panel for the Miss Malaysia/World competition. Eric was also selected as the Official Evening Gown Designer for Miss Malaysia/World, after which he went on to design the winner’s trousseau for the Miss World competition. Commissioned to design and produce all the costumes for the Malaysian-made film The 3^rd Generation.
2005		Invited by the China National Garment Association to showcase his latest collection at the 10th China (Humen) International Fashion Fair. Listed in People at the Peak – The Who’s Who of Malaysia featuring personalities who comprise the driving forces of the nation’s vibrancy. Contributed as a fashion columnist for Feminine Magazine (China), Nuyou (Malaysia) and New Tide (Malaysia). Commissioned by the Estee Lauder Group of Companies to design and produce an evening gown for a charity auction held in conjunction with the Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2005. Participated in Kuala Lumpur-Asia Fashion Week 2005 under the Tribute to Fashion showcase. Nominated as one of Malaysia’s top batik designers by the publisher of the book entitled Batik Inspirations.
2006		Represented ASEAN at the official launch of Wuhan city as the fashion hub of West China Invited by the China National Garment Association to showcase his latest collection at the 5th Chongqing International Fashion Fair. Invited by the People’s Government of Dongguan City, Guandong Province, China to showcase his latest collection at the 11th China (Humen) International Fashion Fair. Elected Vice-President of the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association (MODA). Commissioned by the Estee Lauder Group of Companies to design and produce an evening gown for a charity auction held in conjunction with the Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2006. Nominated as a KL Six designer by the Malaysian International Fashion Alliance. KL Six is a panel of 6 of the most celebrated and successful Malaysian designers. Awarded Best Costume Designer for the film, The 3^rd Generation, at the 19^th Malaysian Film Festival.
2007		Invited to showcase his collections at the Gala evening of the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan Province, China. Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for the Viewtech & Communication Group of Companies in Kuala Lumpur. Selected by Swarovski AG to be their first Malaysian branding partner in the fashion industry, thereby allowing Eric to leverage on the Crystallized Swarovski Elements ingredient branding in respect of his evening and bridal labels. Commissioned by the Estee Lauder Group of Companies to design and produce an evening gown for a charity auction held in conjunction with the Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2007. Nominated as a KL Six designer by the Malaysian International Fashion Alliance. Awarded Designer of the Year and Best Collection Showcase of the Year at the Malaysian-International Fashion Awards 2007.
2008		Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur. Commissioned by the Estee Lauder Group of Companies to design and produce an evening gown for a charity auction held in conjunction with the Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2008. Nominated as a KL Six designer by the Malaysian International Fashion Alliance.
2009		Represented South East Asia at the Sydney Bridal Fashion Week. Launched his autobiography In Full Bloom. Collaborated with Corum for the launch of their latest range of haute watches. Commissioned by the Estee Lauder Group of Companies to design and produce an evening gown for a charity auction held in conjunction with the Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2009. Commissioned by Mattel Corporation to design and produce eveningwear for Barbie on her 50th Anniversary. Commissioned to design and produce staff uniforms for the Malaysian Central Bank Museum and Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.
2010		Represented South East Asia at the Fashion Pakistan Week 2010. Represented Malaysia at the inaugural Jawaher exhibition in London organised by Swarovski AG at their concept store in London. Collaborated with Chopard at their 150th Anniversary Gala. Commissioned by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia to produce a range of batik eveningwear for its 10th Anniversary Gala.
2011		Invited to showcase his collections at the ASEAN Fashion Gala held in conjunction with Liuzhou International Water Carnival 2011 in Guangxi province
